Penitent
by M.K. Chavez
A shame
that we didn’t have
a mirror
to watch
as I swung
my leg over your lap

that I couldn’t see
you lift my skirt
your hand slapping my ass
the welt rising

both of your hands lifting
me onto to you
the steady rhythm

that we kept
between each breath
mounting, the curve

of the small of my back
deepening, the spread
of your legs opening

me wider
coming close
to losing balance

the tips of my toes
touching the floor
the palms of my hands
against the wall
the way that we look

when you disappear
into me and I
am so full of you.
