Resurrection of a Porcelain Doll
by Kristine Ong Muslim
She wants to keep her soiled underwear,
her cobwebbed locks, her scuffed shoes.
She tries to gouge out my eyes, try them
on for fun. I swat at her tiny prying hands,
the ones I have yet to dip in milk.
Mornings I tell her all about the other
resurrected dolls. She nods, falls asleep
standing up on the mantel. All my guests swear
that my porcelain doll has just winked at them.
