the color of her hair.

Tell me
have you pictured mine
in your mind while conquering
her, have you
fallen down drunk
convincing yourself
that it doesn't matter,
that it meant nothing
as you convince her
with poet's proficiency
that your display of pain
is evidence she means
everything?

Who's delicate hand
do you hold
and are you gripping
it or letting it hang,
loose and pale
with a repugnant
moisture
which you've grown
to loathe
and to tolerate?

And does she chatter
at dinner about her
friends and her
foes or does
she stare
past your eyes
into your very soul
and understand
each
and every
atom
of
you
communicating
her devotion
with mute eloquence?
