journey's end
by Scott Wannberg
santa claus got stuck in the chimney
they just don't make them like they used to
the cia had to get him out
his non de plume is saint nick in time
microfilm wrapped around the antlers of his reindeer
the real story
in all its raw nakedness
it's never the journey's end
but the process of the journey itself
full of deep holes in the ground
shiny people break their ankles every day
every romantic ballad has a time bomb in it, ticking
the lovers are well armed
most of its show
the bullets don't work
the knife blade is rubber
if only it were so
stimulants for my friends
off to the new showers we go
it just might be water this time
and not all that much more
the motel desk clerk is overly familiar
i wasn't planning on sleeping that much, anyway
all night the trucks roll in
their engines not too reassuring
i think i'll stop a few seconds
hold up my end of the earth
there's life somewhere down the line
maybe a little hope
they yell your name loud
you accept
could the planet be a cotton ball?
go on, get a wet rag and wipe off the dirt
your escape route is a little too far away
you'll have to finally admit you can dance
rise up, its time
