late afternoon shadows
by David E. Howerton
been sitting here reading
most of this afternoon
can't find a position that
doesn't hurt anymore
finally the sun's getting close
to setting
and shadows are growing
adding a bit of coolness
to the fading afternoon
the shadows
on my curtains
that go by so quickly
are mostly turkeys
and sometimes the reflections
of cars
as rush hour congestion
raises noise levels
almost drowning
the jazz on my radio
