| ***BIO*** Delmas Philpot lives in Grand Rapids Michigan, but is in the process of moving to Kentucky to do research for a book. He attended EKU and received a BA in Creative Writing from the institution. This year, he has appeared in Lit Chaos magazine and will be featured in the sixth issue of Breadcrumb Scabs literary journal. Expect a collection from the author due out next year. |

| He talked about killing himself. He talked about it a lot.
Until the point that it was annoying to the point that I hoped he would, but not really. We got drunk a lot. We drank whisky and beer. Every time we got drunk he’d pull out the .357 his Dad used to kill himself and play with it and say: “I’m gonna blow my fucking brains out.” “Nah Man,” I’d say. “You don’t want to do that,” I’d hand him another beer. “Who would I drink with?” He’d then put the gun away most of the time. It was annoying. It was my birthday, and we decided to get drunk like we like to do. He pulled the gun out again doing his whole Johnny fucking suicide routine: “I’m gonna blow my fucking brains out,” he said. This time I didn’t say anything, because I was tired of hearing it. Then I hear a noise loud enough to cause me to go completely deaf for seconds. When my hearing dose come back It is accompanied with a constant ringing Like the time I had lit some fire crackers in my Dad’s garage when I was a kid. The right side of my face was on fire. I thought that he had accidently shot me. I reached for my face and I picked a piece of bone from it. I could feel blood running and dropping of my chin Like a leaky faucet. I looked over and saw that half of my friends head was gone. He looked like a giant ice cream scooper for zombies, brains and all. I pulled another piece of bone fragment dug deep into the side of my neck. It was shaped like a shark’s tooth. Picking your best friends skull out of your face is a hell of a way to turn 17. Boy, I had a blast. |
