Flush
by Jason Fisk
His bearing
was often mistaken
for shyness
when in actuality
it was narcissism

The beard that crept
down his neck
into his shirt
was frequently mistaken
for artistic contempt
when in actuality
it was the dark
manifestation
of depression

poems were the only thing
his melancholia allowed past
its gloomy gates

He never let anyone
read what he wrote

When finished writing
he always ate his poem
in hopes to absorb
its perfection

The passing
was where he had been
having difficulty of late
how long should he let it sit
in the toilet?
Should he fish it out
and put it in a zip-lock?
Or flush it
in artistic contempt?
