| the poets all get together
and give readings in coffee shops in art galleries with terrible art on the walls they give readings but they never seem to have the time to write new poems the poets are too busy scheduling their next performances making fliers for this gallery or that coffee house there is simply no time to write anything new so they whip out the old poems the oldies but goodies the ones they’ve read a hundred times before the poems that really aren’t so grand that weren’t too good the first time you heard them and they read those poems to the crowd a crowd that keeps getting smaller and smaller at every performance until it is just the poets standing there holding their immortal poems in a vacuum full of nothing but other poets anxious to get on stage and read their work as bored baristas wipe down counters and bored gallery owners watch the street as everyone else has gone off to dinner off to watch a movie they’ve seen a thousand times before or thankfully off to bed. |
