| WRITER’S BLOCK |

| Three hours past midnight
deep into the middle of a new poem I discover my refrigerator’s broke, panic sets in as I search for something containing alcohol discovering only celery, cottage cheese and three pieces of weekend pizza all past their due date. Desperate to finish my early morning masterpiece I mourn the absence of even cooking sherry or cheap port wine reserved for some recipe I’ve never attempted or never will and realize I may have to rely solely on my talent, creativity and inspiration so I decide to abort and continue my narrative the next afternoon after the liquor stores open when suddenly I find a lonely soldier standing boldly behind a bottle of brown ketchup laughing as if he knew I couldn’t complete a single sentence without his assistance making me grab the smug bastard’s cold slender body and slam it against the wall which foams madly across my pass- through which doubles as my desk completely disenabling my computer and three hours past midnight deep into a new poem I discover my refrigerator’s broke. |
