| New year’s in a buddy’s basement
with a family friend come to visit all the way from Texas. Never had Cuervo before, don’t swallow the worm, he said. Spat worm on his grandmother’s sofa, he took a bite, I the other, she blond-giggled and grinned. He shot fireworks at the backyard blizzard as she frenched me, Dick Clark got off. It got hot in the basement. Not in her mouth he said. I couldn’t, too much worm, then I went to sloppy work, more nose than tongue. Fifteen, drunk in a bathroom mirror, a hair plastered to my face on the dawn of 1989. |
