space the final frontier
by Dorothee Lang & Eric Wrisley
the clock ticks again
warning against the lateness of the hour
waving its metal hands of time
still he is up,
filling the blanks
of another day too soon ending
between waves of unsettled tasks
lapping against the door
drowning the idea of sleep

his fingers reach out
to hold the button that fills the air
with digital colours,
they soak the room with voices
with sounds from places
that might only exist
at the other end of a stream of pictures
from the far side of the city
