| ***BIO*** Stephen Gros: Being born in southeast Texas to a sixteen year old single mother did nothing to slow Stephen's momentum. If anything the transience of his early life fed his ambition to succeed. He began writing poetry at an early age, and has been hitting the open mics from the louisiana border to long beach california steady for the past 6 years. his first chapbook The Burning Boy acheived some small measure of notoriety. Stephen co-founded the non-profit company Panhandler Publishing, and is very active in the petry community in and around Houston, Texas. He lives in houston with his turantula Attila and an odious atmosphere of unsettled discomfort. |

| i was born screaming
and i've been doing it ever since. my poetry, all in capital letters, was steeped in a bitter broth... so add a little honey "your stillness is sculpture, your breaths immeasurably small, my ears strain to hear your chest move" and then i go on screaming i only write about cigarettes and fucking anyway, right? maybe if i'm loud enough you'll hear me. because you mistake quietude for sadness even in my most exuberant moments like: "the sun is a great swordsman, to stab my eyes with his shining rapier from such a distance" but i only write about cigarettes and fucking. so take another drag, darlin' and let's go home. |
