Have a Nice Day
by Steve Barker
Sunday morning
on Broadway
on my way
to feed my friend Will’s cat

a girl about fifteen
rocks herself
on a rail outside
a bank
her clothes are last season
and her hair still shines
but her speech slurs
as she ask me for coin

shaking my head
looking at her backpack
overstuffed with fraying straps
I keep moving
without opening my mouth

she tells me
have a nice day
