| Packing on the pounds |
| by Dagny Nogy |
| “She’s really packed on the pounds,” he said
...and I overheard. And although I had packed on twelve such pounds, I thought I looked good for having just had a baby. That bastard, I thought realizing that he’d just spoiled my lunch at the much-anticipated Fourth of July picnic. I dropped my half-eaten cheeseburger onto the Styrofoam plate where it could mingle with my pasta salad and baked beans. I’d nibble like a rabbit on the fresh fruit and lettuce instead. “Bye. Have a safe trip home,” I said later waving, a too-bright smile dimpling my overly-plump cheeks. As I cleaned up the after-party mess, popping some stale potato chips in my mouth and greedily chugging a non-diet Pepsi, I wondered if there were any brownies left as I hummed happily. Hey hey hey, goodbye. |
