Monkey Suit
by Debbie Kirk
I smell the spirit of Laura Ingalls
When I braid my hair
Intoxicating me
All the way up to that loft
To turn out the lantern
Put on a dumb bonnet
And sleep.

If you go to any thrift store
In any city
Any hour of any day
You will find a plague
Of a “Precious Moments” nature
In the goods dept.
With a young girl
Kneeling in front of her bed
Assuming the position
To confess guilt.

And sometimes it holds
A broken bottle to my
Hungry jugular
And other times
It puts me in a monkey suit
And there’s not enough Sedatives
In all of China
To keep King Kong from fucking shit up.
***BIO*** Debbie Kirk is a 30 year old writer who isn't from anywhere and lives in the sewers.  She writes stuff...and it must be O.K. because it has aquired her some stalkers.  She dosen't want to grow up to be anything.  She passed out last weekend in her friend Kristi's tub after a night of drinking.  The last thing she said was:  "I'm not going out like Bon Scott man, not yet."
