| it’s only my second reading
but I’m not at all nervous considering there are a total of five unfamiliar faces in the audience, two of whom whip together high priced coffee concoctions behind the counter I’m so comfortable on stage I decide to read a story called “Everything I Needed To Know I Learned From Porno” the audience responds well and I get to the section where a supporting character obsesses over his mother’s double-ended dildo when a picture of my six year old daughter slides out of the chapbook and flutters down, landing neatly against the microphone stand facing the audience the laughter dies in their throats an awkward silence pervades though I retrieve the picture not even my story about quitting a masturbation society can resurrect their humor |
