waiting for the bus
by Amanda Oaks
i stood there,
firm,
on top of that piece
of election propaganda
BOYD!
all red, white and blue
for State Representative
and then some dotcom publicity
littered the bottom

i stood there with my dirty shoes
firm

i stood there
heavy
with sinister charm

i stood there smearing the dirt
into his fake smile
it got intense
i just wanted to start jumping up and down upon it,
doing a little dance,

but in my mind,
i illustrated the graphic scene,
in black and white,
that would follow this act

me,
3 men
and a bright white straight jacket

i watched myself being hauled away
for having some thought and expressing it in a way
that was not socially acceptable

as the bus approached
and my foot attached itself to the stair,
my other pushed the sign
relentlessly behind me
i pushed it to the wayside under the capitalistic sky,
along with all the emotion, morality and judgment
that is rotting down there

i shoved it aside

and all machine-like
and in slow-motion,
i boarded the bus
