Morning Coffee
by M. Blake
He sees the sunlight trying to push through the thick clouds, and just the sight of this gives him a lift and sends him away, briefly, from this house and the morning routine. He thinks of other places he has lived in, roads he’s been on, different kinds of nature he’s seen, and he remembers experiencing this same feeling of rejuvenation in those places too, when sunlight started to come through dark clouds. Refreshing moments when he forgets himself and is actually glad – yes, glad – to be alive. Poignant moments, with the feeling that this is really the goods, and the irrelevancy of the rest of it is enough to make him laugh.
