[If you] get down on [your] luck in Halifax, Nova Scotia [you] can always get by stuffing flyers at the Chronicle-Herald’s distribution centre. [You’d] make a good lawyer. [You] should write a novel. [You] should see his new girlfriend. Fucking smoking, man! [You] gotta get thinking about print journals, the internet’s no good. [You] should read my boyfriend’s poetry [You] need to get [your] head out of the clouds. [Wouldn’t you] be better off in a Saturn? 2. Indirect [I] think you’d be better off living in a house. [Personally, I’d] get the first one. [I’m] warning you, man. [I’m] fucking crazy, you don’t know me and [I’ll] fuck you up. [Would I] be asking too much to tell you to keep your voice down? [I] really wish you’d look other people in the [eyes]. Source: Careful inventory of every piece of advice I was given by man or machine over a 48 hour period in April of 2005. The poem was derived from highlights of that exercise. |
