McSorley's Astor Place
by Tim Jos. Nelson
Gray-bearded elder patron
Said, "Beef injection," and then
"English Literature was my graduate
Studies."  Blah, blah, burp

I slap down soggy
Dollar bills for the beer special,
But I'm only a visitor here

The beauty & stench of this pub
What saints & swine have sat and
Talked, looking for the same answers
Amidst the sawdust

While outside, dead punks with junky
Arms hunt for cigarette butts in
Gutters

Later, walking off my afternoon buzz,
A friendly NYC cop says,
"Did you find McSorley's?"
"Sure did. Thanks," I say
"Take my family there all the time," he
Says

Saints, hold steady!  We band
Together in bars
Touching each other's scars

Tired from all the lifting & pulling
Here, I'm just a visitor, but
Thankful for attractions & distractions
