Questioning Lengths
by Mike Soper
(May 18th,, 2004)
Drinking coffee
In a bar
Right off the downtown square

I notice a wedding dress
Taped to one of the windows,
Its arms stretched to questioning lengths

And as the sun cuts
Through the dust and
Fine lace folds
To warm us,
The woman across from me
Is silent

Unable to provide a reason
For our shadows
That sometimes mingle

Though we never
Touch.
