Play for Me
by David Fraser
Those times when we both move
about the place,
dimensions apart,
shapes,
bat wing flutter in the corner of an eye,
lost in solitary self-
absorbing interest;
not so much now
in each other
as once we melted together,
hot and full of sweat.

Some times during
one of those moments
I want to stop,
walk across the room
to study you,
say "Patsy,
I'll watch you paint.
Patsy, play for me.
Play songs of haunting sadness,
of injured birds set free."
