Rockin’ My Voodoo
by Bradley Mason Hamlin
Night
highway
headlights
taking her for a ride
in my cartoon car
flames & rubber hubcaps
rollin
and I’m drinkin happy
shhhhh …
don’t tell anybody
keep the whiskey on yer lap
be cool, baby
blow a kiss at the cops
with your cosmic gold lipstick
and hellfire, lightning, visions of Jesus
steering a flying saucer
down four-lane blacktop, honey, we’re gone
beyond the crossroads
the hidden secret inside the cactus
cuz you’re rockin my voodoo, chica bonita
you’re fuckin out o’ sight
you’re crazy fine
like unexpected jazz on the radio
go
anywhere
with you, girl, Kansas City
Boston
Sacramento
anywhere
where the road is long and smooth
and black
and turn on headlights
and you can turn on your headlights
and the coyotes will sing
and the skeletons of the night desert
will dance like happy banditos
full of hot sauce & cheap tequila
the stars above revealing
underground messages
as the phantom winds
record the sound of our laughter
rollin down the road
cuz we’re rockin that voodoo, baby
and you like it that way.
