El Loco fumbled for his new brush.
it had a textured handle
& his name was engraved in script
on the back of the head.
he bought it for himself with money
he'd saved from clipping coupons
& living off of rat poison
& cold oatmeal.

spirits were high
& so were my eyes
as they laid themselves on the back
of her scaly neck.
she was the most beautiful iguana
I'd ever seen.
I introduced myself to the green goddess
& we kissed with the gurgling of the
oversized aquarium's filter
in the background.
I waved my hands in the air
& shouted something in Spanish.
